* OHAMBO means 'trip' in Zulu language, the language of the Zulu people of South Africa.

Settings

Before you start using OHAMBO, we recommend you to take a look in the settings section of the (web)app.

Open the settings menu
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap the 'Settings' button on the bottom of the menu.
General settings
  1. Open the settings menu.
  2. Modify one of these settings:
    • Your name: Your name will only be used when sharing a trip plan with someone else.
    • Hometown: This will be the default return location when you create a new trip plan.
    • Currency: The currency you want to use to show prices for transport.
    • Date format: De date format you wnat to use (dd-mm-yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd)
  3. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
App info

The bottom of the settings screen contains your email address and the app version. Please provide this information to us when you are calling for support.

Trip Plans

Ohambo uses 2 kinds of trip plans:

  • Own trips
  • Shared trips

You can only modify the first kind of trip plans. The second type are 'Read only' trip plans.

All your trip plans (own and shared) are accessed from the side menu on the left.

Loading a trip plan
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap the trip you want to load.
Creating a new trip plan
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap the '+ Add Trip' button on top of the menu.
  3. Enter all information. Everything is required.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Removing a trip trip plan
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) of the trip plan you want to remove.
  3. Click/Tap the 'Remove trip' option that became visible.
Renaming a trip plan
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) of the trip plan you want to rename.
  3. Enter the new name of your trip plan.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.

Sharing trip plans

With a few clicks, you can share your trip plan with your fellow travelers.

The person you share your trip plan with will receive an email with a link to view your trip plan in the web application. When he installs and opens the OHAMBO app on his mobile device, the trip plan will also be available in his left menu.

IMPORTANT: when you share a trip plan, you only have to specify the email address of your fellow traveler. That person must login to OHAMBO with that same email address. No one else will have access to your trip plan. Ofcourse, you can share your trip plan with more than one person.

Sharing a trip plan
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) of the trip plan you want to share.
  3. Click/Tap the 'Share trip' option that became visible.
  4. Enter the email adress of your fellow traveler.
  5. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.

If you no longer want to see a trip plan that was shared with you, you can:

Stop sharing a trip plan
  1. Open the left menu.
  2. Click/Tap on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) of the trip plan you no longer want to share.
  3. Click/Tap the 'Stop sharing' option that became visible.

Editing trip plans

After you've created your trip plan, you have to finetune it. You do this by adding all relevant information for each day of your trip.
You can add/modify the followig:

  • Date (first and last day of your trip plan only)
  • Destination
  • Transport
  • Documents
  • Notes

Editing a day of your trip plan

  1. Load your trip plan.
  2. Click/Tap on a day in your trip plan.
  3. You will see the 'Edit screen'. All modifications are done on this screen.

Extend/Shrink a trip plan

You can extend or shrink your trip plan by changing the date of the first or last day of your trip plan.

IMPORTANT: You can only change the date of the first and last day of your trip plan. Dates for other days are assigned automatically.

Modifying a date
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the edit button on the date section.
  2. Modify the date using the day, month and year chooser.
  3. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.

Changing a Destination

For each day of your trip, you have to enter the city you will stay in.

Modifying a destination
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the edit button on the destination section.
  2. Start entering the name of the new destination.
  3. Select the destination from the list with proposals.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.

Changing a Transport Option

For each day of your trip, you can add a transport option. We will propose the most common transport options for your journey, but you can easily modify a proposed one or create your own from scratch.

Adding a proposed transport option
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Add' button on the transport section.
  2. You will see the list with common transport options.
  3. You can click/tap on an itinerary to show it on the map.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button next to the option you want to use.
Changing the 'from' and 'to' location of a journey

When the from or to location of the proposed transport options seems not correct, you can change them.

  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Add' button on the transport section.
  2. Click/Tap the 'Edit' button in the from/to section..
  3. Change one or both location(s).
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Creating a new transport option

If you can't find a matching itinerary in the list of proposed transport options, you can easily create your own one.

  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Add' button on the transport section.
  2. The last option in the list of transport options is an 'empty' one. Click/tap the 'Accept' button next to this option.
  3. Enter all information and select 1 or more transport icons.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Modifying a transport option

After you have added a transport option, you can modify all it properties if you want to.

  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Edit' button next to selected transport option.
  2. Select/deselect one or more transport icons on top of the dialog.
  3. Enter the details of your itinerary.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Removing a transport option
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Remove' button next to the selected transport option.

Working with Documents

You can add all kind of documents to your trip plan. Examples are official documents, flight or train tickets, hotel or restaurant reservations, event tickets, ...
Just like any other part of your trip plan, documents will allways be available from the OHAMBO app on your mobile device, even when you have no internet connection available.

Adding a document from within the OHAMBO app/webapp
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Add' button on the documents section.
  2. Click/Tap the 'Select document' buttons.
  3. Select the document you want to add.
  4. Click/Tap on one of the icons.
  5. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Adding documents by email

You will receive most documents you need for your trip in an email sent to you by the issuer. The most efficient way to add them to OHAMBO is by forwarding the mail you received to documents@ohambo.com. The mail itself + all attachments will be added automatically to your trip plan.

  1. Forward the email to documents@ohambo.com
  2. IMPORTANT: You should forward the email form the same email address you use to access OHAMBO.
  3. The subject of your email should follow these rules:
    • Start with a date in the 'DD-MM-YYYY' or 'YYYY-MM-DD' (YYYY means four-digit year, MM means two-digit month, and DD means two-digit day).
    • If the subject contains more than the date, the date should be followed by a space character.
    • Everything after that space will not be used by OHAMBO.
    Valid subjects are for example: '2016-08-24 Bla, bla, bla' or '24-07-2017 Bla, bla, bla'.
  4. You will receive an email to confirm that the documents were added sucessfully.
Renaming a document and choosing another icon
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Edit' button of the document you want to modify.
  2. Enter a new name and/or choose another icon.
  3. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Removing a document
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Remove' button of the document you want to remove.
Viewing documents

You can view your documents on 3 different places in the OHAMBO (web)app:

  • In the 'Edit screen'
  • In the 'Doc's' list (button on the bottom in the main screen).
  • On the 'Timeline' (button on the bottom in the main screen).

In any of these screens, just click/tap on the document you want to view.

 

Working with Notes

OHAMBO makes it easy to orgnize and safely store all kind of notes you take during the planning of your trip.

I your note contains links to external websites, they will be automatically converted to clickable references by the OHAMBO (web)app.

Adding a note
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Add' button on the notes section.
  2. Select an appropriate icon on top of the dialog.
  3. Enter your note. Web links will automatically be converted to a clickable link.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Modifying a note
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Edit' button of the note you want to modify.
  2. Select an appropriate icon on top of the dialog.
  3. Enter your note. Web links will automatically be converted to a clickable link.
  4. Click/Tap the 'Accept' button on the top right of the screen.
Removing a note
  1. In the 'Edit screen', click/tap the 'Remove' button of the note you want to remove.

The Timeline

The Timeline is the place where all the magic of OHAMBO comes together. Each screen combines all destination and transport info, documents and notes for one day of your trip.
When you open the app during your trip, you will automatically see the current day view of the Timeline.

Navigating the Timeline.
  1. Swipe left or right to go to the next or previous day.
  2. Or scroll the calendar at the top of the screen and click/tap on a day.
